Because at that time "family morals" were of great value. People could laugh and enjoy movies or tv show without four letter words or sexual pervision we see today. Even Lucy of ( I love Lucy show) and Ricky Ricardo slept in seperate beds. People just assumed Matt an Kitty were in love, no questions asked .

There were a few shows where they acted romantically toward one another. The wholesome concept of the show would not have allowed the saloon and bawdy house operator "Miss Kitty" to get too close to the straight shootin sheriff.

Back in the 60s they werent allowed to show much passion, violence etc. Everything was censored so not to disturb the audience.

i dont think they were allowed back then.have you ever noticed in some movies where a husband and wife slept in seperate beds?
