I overthink situations way too much and it usually turns out that I worried for nothing. Like if I go a week without seeing or hearing from one of my friends, I wonder and wonder, what if they don't like me? Were they just too busy to hang out? Why didn't they talk to me this week? Stuff like that. How do I stop overthinking and worrying about all the different possibilities of a situation that almost NEVER are true?

I am also experiencing these kind of thoughts manytimes. I think this is a kind of negative thinking. One advice I got from a spiritualist is that we doubt that which is positive and we don't doubt that which is negative. So his advice is (whenever you have a doubt) "Doubt the negative, accept the positive" or "Doubt the doubt".

The overthinking you describe is negative imagination. First an imagined scenario is created, then the mind stays focused on one pointless & unreal but disturbing possibility after another.

Common problem ; the mind out of control is one of the most common afflictions of human life. It starts with letting the mind stray into the imagined future(or the long gone past). When the mind is focused in the NOW, the present moment, there is no way for the mind to be disturbed in this manner.

Meditation in all forms only takes place in the NOW moment.

Practice focusing in the NOW, in the present moment, using any meditation style you choose. It's very important to practice every day to have a lasting benefit. If you do this, very soon you will see what I mean.

You will start to notice how when the mind drifts to the future (or the past) that you get tension in the body - muscles start to get tight, your stomach feels jumpy, etc.etc. When you live in the present moment, there is a space in which you can also start to unwind the tension of the body, relax the belly, breath deeply, drop the shoulders, etc, etc.

Training the mind is just like training a muscle; at first even a small weight feels heavy. With practice, the mind (or the muscle) becomes stronger and can do more with better control.

I've sent some links that ought to give you some ideas.

Good Luck!

;-)

think about the hurt she has caused you. Remember, she hurt you. She doesn't deserve even a second of you thoughts. She's not worth it. Say this again and again " It's not like I'm gonna die. I'm way too good to be overthinking". For overthinking in general, just do something else, ok? You just don't have anything else interesting to do. That's why, you overthink. *do something you really like and enjoy. except Overthinking.

One possibility is that you may have some sort of disorder that is characterized by "overthinking". However, I am NOT a mental health care professional, so do not take my word for it. If you or someone close to you is worried that his is the case, then I suggest you see your doctor about it. If not, then just RELAX. I sometimes go without seeing some of my closest friends for a month! Mayber you need an outlet for all this frre time you seem to have to be worrying about things that don't exist. Read, go to the movies, work out, join a club, play a sport, get involved with something, somehow to get your mind off of everythung you're worrying about.

Isn't it the pits to feel this way...I know...I use to do it too! Just relax and you will see as I did...sometimes they are busy with other things, but it doesn't mean you are forgotten. Pick up a new hobby that keeps your mind from wondering about what your friends are doing and pretty soon they will be wondering what you are doing because they havn't heard from you. Hope it all works out for you... just relax, you'll see it's all cool with 'em.

The way I handle over thinking or ruminating or anxiety attacks. I think positive thoughts to replace all the negative one. I have to be consistent as they keep creeping back into my thoughts. But the positive persistence eventually replaces the negative. It took time to reach the over thinking point, and it takes time to overcome it. Basic thoughts like it's not that bad, things will get better, I can get past this. Think of your favourite dogs ear to ear grin. Just the act of smiling changes our moods as it triggers memories that made us smile.

Just slow down. Try not to let your thoughts spin out of control. When you start going crazy like that, take deep breaths and eat a little piece of chocolate.

Its all about mind over matter, it will take some time to overcome this. It just depends on if you can catch yourself in the act of thinking, and when you do you just have to tell yourself to stop. If you keep doing this then eventually you will quit all together

the harder you try to stop, the worse it is going to be, maybe you just need to relax a bit, here is a positive to it; if you except the worst that can happen then yo are much happier if it's not true, and when it is then you already prepared for that, it may hurt a little less

THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION AND WHEN YOU FIND OUT THE ANSWER LET ME KNOW. I don't have a problem with worry, but I over examine everything. I think, think, think which is best, etc. My mind is always running in high gear!
