The practical applications of math are endless. The basic math like algebra and geometry is vital knowledge for being able to solve everyday problems. The higher math is very useful in professions. If you're any kind of scientist, you'll need to know everything up until at least differential equations, and definitely further for chemistry and physics. Statistics is a real, very common application of mathematics that shows up everywhere- being able to take a set of real data that probably isn't perfect and still managing to analyze it to find patterns. Calculus also shows up frequently in businesses when they are attempting to optimize conditions in order to maximize profit or decrease cost.

Aside from applications, math fosters more analytical, rational thinking. This is why Plato taught geometry and arithmetic to his students before subjecting them to philosophy: so that he could develop their critical thinking skills. Just being able to solve complex problems is a wonderful skill that can be developed through mathematics. The mathematical study of logic is also quite practical.

And surely you don't think that all of the world's technology just popped out of the air without somebody doing a lot of math along the way?

Well consider this Hypothetical situation. Lets say you don't know any kind of math, but you do know how to read and write. Now go to the store and get 4 loaves of bread and 2 gallons of milk. You would be able to find the milk and bread, but not get the right amount of bread or milk because you can't count. Counting is part of math and you don't know math.

But lets say you get a store clerk to help you with your short list and he/she puts the correct amount of each item in your cart (so you hope). You go to the check out counter and the clerk rings up the total. Now this hypothetical total comes to say $6.35. You can read the total but they mean nothing to you because you don't know math.

Now you open your wallet and ask the clerk to take the money. He/she pulls out a 10 dollar bill but its value means nothing to you because you don't know math. The clerk hands you $3.65 is this the correct change? How can you know if you don't know math?

There are plenty of people who get by not knowing how to read or write. But even an illiterate person can do basic math. If the entire population of the world suddenly lost all knowledge of math we would all quite litterally die or regress back to the stone age. Math is the building block of civilization without it civiliztion will crumble.

Math has a wonderful habit of giving us possibilities for the model of our universe. What's even more amazing is that as humans we can at times construct mathematical concepts without any parallel in the known universe (until someone else finds that parallel in the future). and the obvious: it's nice to balance a checkbook and count change so you don't get ripped off.

its because your going to use it every single day whether you know it or not but with the advanced math like calculus is probably taught for 2 reasons first you are going to use it if you have a job in something like engineering and medicine and second it helps to expand your intelligence because your brain will learn to learn more by developement

Because you WILL use it everyday in your life.

In addition to that, if you learn good math skills you will develop good habits to problem solve.
