You will gain and understanding of the mosiac that is our world. It can be enlightening to learn of things and to find understanding for complex issues.

We live in a world where information comes at us very fast. Reading is a nuanced way of getting information and will serve you well as you get older.

When you say something has happened in a remote corner of the world, you fail to realise how close those corners have come. In one of those remote corners, the plot to kill us on 9/11 was hatched.

One thing that you can learn is that there ARE other parts of the world and not just your little space. You can also learn that there are other things to talk about besides video games, the opposite sex and what shoes you are going to wear. You might even learn that your self-pitying attitude has no foundation, when compared to what is happening is some remote corner of the world. Or even in the home of one of your classmates.
Don't be afraid of knowledge for it is power.

Caves in Afghanistan are remote corners of the world. 9/11 spawned from them. Seems to me maybe more time should be spent studying those remote corners out there.

you can learn how it may/may not affect where you live.
You will at least be able to sound intelligent when it comes to discussion world information and what is going on.

nothing sounds more pathetic than an adult who apparently lives under a rock in terms of world issues.
I'm not saying become a researcher, but be aware.

political, social, historical, and cultural differences between people of the world....appreciation for your own culture and way of life, compassion, empathy, and understanding for those less fortunate... and the fact that the world doesn't revolve around you.... it's a global society.... we all impact each other these days.

a lot. people are people, humans are humans, all humans act the same, react the same, and all humans repeat history.

reading and learning about others teaches you a lot about yourself and those around you.

expand your mind, there is nothing better.
