Ok, let me start by saying I'm a Yankees fan.
Ok now that I know the people who have no baseball knowledge will no longer be reading because of that first statement, let me begin.
Basically, its about where you were born and how you were raised. I'm a die hard Yankees fan, and when its game-time between the 2 teams, I hate the Sox. Its one thing to hate, its another to respect. I hate them, but I respect them. They always play good baseball, for the most part its clean, and when its not its always entertaining. Some of my closest friends are Sox fans, its not like British soccer where you cannot have friends who root for your rival. We joke around about it, we all sit down and watch the Sox-Yankees games at someone's house. The Sox are in fact a good baseball team.
Now its time for me to do some bashing. I cant stand the people, I dont care what team you root for, who say "MY TEAM IS BETTER, WE'LL KICK YOUR *** ANY DAY BLAH BLAH BLAH."
First off, you wont, thats why you play the games. Second off, show some respect. Dont go around saying the other team sucks just because you hate them. I dont like the Sox 95% of the time, but I recognize they're a good baseball team.
And for all of you Red Sox fan who call the Yankees the Evil Empire. You arent too far behind, you just paid $51 million just to TALK to a player, thats not even to sign him yet. You guys are 2nd every year to the Yankees in payroll now.
So in conclusion, let the teams play, stop being immature, and enjoy the game. And lets keep this rivalry alive and kicking for many generations to come.

Family tradition. 3 generations of Boston Red Sox fans. Went to high school about 1 mile from Fenway and often walked to day games. Don't try that a mile from Yankee Stadium unless you want to reenact the mile run at the end of Blackhawk Down. Fenway is friendly to fans from other teams, except of course Yankee fans. People in Boston by and large just don't like the Yankees or Yankee fans

After many years in New England, I moved to Miami where my lifelong loyalty to the Red Sox was rewarded with a championship in 2004. I can now go to my grave a happy man, having seen a championship banner flying over Fenway Park. What I have found is that Red Sox fans are far and away the most astute fans in baseball (and Miami fans are the most fickle) It is about knowledge and respect for the traditions of the game. Yankee fans do not possess less knowledge or respect, it is how they express it that comes to cut across the grain of the loyal Boston fan base. The championship gap notwithstanding, it is about conduct. Nothing more and nothing less.

Red Sox all the way. I can't believe someone said the Sox fans are mean. Have you been to Yankee Stadium lately. They are the rudest most obnoxious fans out there. Red Sox have heart and don't give up, the fans stand behind their team thru it all. (we have too, see we have a sense of humor too!) God forbid it's been what 6 years since the yanks won and everyone is crying..boohoo. They won't win in 2007 either! It is the curse of A-Rod ever heard of it? Want to win the WS again, get rid of him. And no we don't want him!

I really, really could go on and on about this. I am a huge Red Sox fan, but to sum it all up: The Yankees feel a need to go out and get every free agent, spend the most money in baseball, and plus they have 26 world series and we have 6 so don't like them.

The Red Sox have the greatest fan loyalty, the best ballpark (Fenway is awesome), the players actually have fun together while playing, they are allowed to show their personalities, they made the greatest comeback in all of sports history, their story is charming and interesting, and they have the ability to play through adversity. The Yankees have proven to be the biggest chokers in sports history, they have no more personality or charm than a big pile of cash. They have no qualms about cheating in baseball, taking steroids, and simply going out and trying to buy a championship. Nuff said, McGreevey!

I am a Red Sox fan out of NZ.
I perfer the Sox because the fans do not hate their own playes, they have a better sense of humour, more fan team to watch, better clubhouse, and in the past especially, look like they are having more fun on the field.
Not going after every FA, and spending 200million+ also helps.
I know they are spending up now, but still will not spend 200million..

It is the way you were raised if you grew up in Boston. You hate the Yankees, Lakers, and Canadians. It also takes a person with a ton of heart not to switch to the evil empire where you know their team's odds of winning the Series are much greater.
