Getting them put on doesn't hurt, but your mouth will be sore fore the next few days. I hope you like ice cream! (It's soft, and it's cold, which numbs your mouth.) Each time you get them tightened, it will hurt, but not as bad at the first time. Take some type of pain killer before you get your braces on, and then take some more when you get home.

Sometimes the braces can cut the insides of your mouth, like if you sleep funny or get hit in the face. Your orthodontist should give you some wax to put over the metal, and that helps a lot!

Just remember to brush a lot, and flossing sucks. Stay away from dark types of pop (bad for the metal), corn-on-the-cob, caramel apples, bubble gum, and other things that can knock your braces loose. However, after you get your braces taken off, you'll be happy with your new smile!

I won't lie to you....braces suck. I just got mine off a few months ago and I'm in my 30's. They make your teeth hurt and sensitive when you first get them on and then every time you get them tightened. You will get them tightened every month and the pain will last any where from one to three days. Not all of your teeth will hurt everytime you get them tightened. The average time to have braces on is two years. I had mine on for one year and nine months. I have to say that they are definately worth the time and effort. If you do get them you will get used to them. So much so that the time will really fly and you'll be getting them off before you know it.

It hurts for a few days...IT REALLY HURTS! But then you get use to them. But then you have to get them tightened or something added to your braces like...rubber bands. And then you have to get use to them all over again! Oh, and if you do get braces, remember to brush your teeth A LOT because if you don't when you get them off the wire lines will show on your teeth! Possibly forever! Anyway, I hope you don't need them!

My mom is an orthodontist. braces really aren't that bad, i have had metal in my mouth since i was in kindergarten and i started braces in third grade. i am definitely tough, but they don't hurt, you may have to use wax they provide you for awhile, because your cheeks will not be used to something on top of your teeth sticking out, but that is about it. as long as you go to a doctor who is well known and knows what he/she is doing you shouldn't have a problem. and depending on your teeth, is what you may have done, certain things will bother you more than others, but when they say no popcorn or gum..i would really try to stick that and occasionally treat yourself to them..because it can sometimes just make your treatment longer.

I had braces for four years. They are definetly akward feeling when they get put on but they do not hurt. When you have to get them tightened you may experience mild discomfort, but belive me, you get used to the whole ordeal very quickly. Good luck!

all that hurts is when they get put on ...the tightening of the teeth is painfull especially if they have to pull teeth...give it a couple of months and you'll get used to the pain and after awhile it will feel like nothing
