Honestly, I don't believe there are any trivial subjects in school. There is a reason behind every single subject whether it be to broaden your horizons or develop basic skills. There is a reason for every subject. Granted I may have a tainted view...

Unlike some of the other answers, I don't agree that PE is trivial. My son is in middle school and still only 11 yrs old. With no breaks and only 25 minutes for lunch, they have very little time to release any of that kid energy. They have just 6 weeks of PE and with rising obesity rates in kids, why shorten PE?

Every course has some value for somebody. However,
the local high school has a course in "Gourmet Foods". I think that's a stretch.

penmanship or gym class, probably penmanship. certain people just don't have the natural physical skills to have decent handwriting and it's not fair to smart kids to downgrade them for this. Once everyone's learned how to make their letters, penmanship really should stop b/c it's unnecessary.
