the only thing that keeps track of time is conciousness...it can only take the precious few, but it cherishes that incredibly..squeezing more properties out of such....making you perceptive to time...when asleep, everything is the same, you take in much and process rapidly, but things become diluted and timeless...(putting more hardwired sentiment for understanding to human)
it is only through conciousness, a rigorous and intense program, that the time dimention becomes revealed to you...This is another example how frames of mind, and the capacity for the mind...to sense beyond the dimentions your biological eyes have allowed you to perceive.

Currently, don't we acknowledge time when we are asleep because we are not yet able handle the reality of what our being here and being alive means. Our minds are in their "evolutionary infant stage" and for most of us these abilities are needed to work out the challenges of the physical world. At the time when we are asleep a part of our existence actually departs from the physical body and enters another realm while the vitality part of us stays and repairs the bodily wear and tear of the day. For most people sleep is unconscious but for the people who have been living in harmony with the Universal Law's for a time..., they are able to consciously enter this realm to aid others. This vehichle is our 'soul body' (called "soma psuchon" in Greek). It is refered to in scripture as the "Wedding Garment".

When asleep, our mind is so active that time just passes us by. That's when some people when they wake up, they complain about it being morning already cause they just went to sleep when infact, they've slept all night but their brain was intertaining itself in the dream state.

I don't really know what you mean but I always wake up twenty minutes earlier than the time I set my alarm for. So I wonder how I keep track of time while I'm sleeping?

at some point, we (as humans) did acknowledge time, that is why, it was Researched and Studied, and later agreed, that the body needs to rest (sleep) during the hours of 10pm and 6am (typically)

The passage of time is a human invention to help with this physical plane of existence.
When we sleep, we temporarily go to a place where time does not exist..until our alarm clocks bring us back..sigh.
