Do you want a classical or do you want an acoustic (dreadnought, F, Jumbo)?
Alvarez Yairi (not to be confused with Alvarez Artist) is, in my opinion the best production classical guitar.
Here are my other choices for other types of acoustics:

Ultimately, it is going to be a very personal decision. Spend a couple of hours in a music store and try out everything they have. It is YOUR money, take your time and make the best decision for you.

There is no "best brand" just like most things... There are ones with good reputations (Yamaha, Guild, etc..) and cheaper ones.
And, it would depend on the use... low action, easy to play? High action and loud clean sound? What do you need?
The best thing to do (if you don't play yet or don't know how to judge "action" and such) is to take someone who knows a lot shopping with you, or get the sales clerks to argue it out in front of you so you can see the opinions on what they have.
But best brand is like asking what's the best sneaker brand, or best car brand, or best breakfast cereal brand.... Just no easy way to answer it.

Epiphone: Epiphone EmperorThe Epiphone Company is a guitar manufacturer. Before being bought out by Gibson in the late 1950s, Epiphone was actually Gibson's main rival in the archtop market. Their professional archtops, including the Emperor, Deluxe, Broadway and Triumph, rivalled (and some contend surpassed) those of Gibson. Aside from their guitars, Epiphone also made bass guitars, banjos, and other stringed instruments. However, the company's weakness in the aftermath of World War II allowed Gibson to absorb it. The name "Epiphone" is a combination of proprietor Epaminondas Stathopoulos' nickname "Epi" and "phone", Greek for "sound". History: The history of Epiphone dates to the 1870s, in Izmir, Turkey, where Greek founder Anastasios Stathopoulos made his own fiddles, lutes, and Lioutos. Stathopoulos moved to the United States of America in 1903, and continued to make his original instruments, as well as mandolins, from Long Island City in Queens, New York. Anastasios died in 1915, and his son, Epaminondas, took over. After two years, the company was known as The House Of Stathopoulos. Just after the end of World War I, the company started to make banjos. The company produced its Recording Line of Banjos in 1924, and, four years later, took on the name of the Epiphone Banjo Company. They produced their first guitars in 1928. Epi Stathopoulo died in 1943.
