We started out looking for a bigger TV for the bedroom. We went to a couple of places and all of a sudden my husband has it in his head that we should get a bigger TV for the living room instead and move the entire TV and stand into the bedroom. It went from spending $300-$400 to practically $2000. We already have a big TV in the living room so my feelings is we don't need one. But he's in there, watching TV and kind of sulking (not bad, he just really wants it) because I am against the new TV for the living room. Should I just give in and let him spend $2000 that we really don't have on a TV that we definitely don't need? Or should I hold my ground and push for just a less expensive, MUCH less expensive, TV for the bedroom?

I also think that his big todo about getting a new TV for the livingroom has to do with his brother in law getting 2 big HDTV's for himself, on a great deal that he couldn't refuse. But he also makes more money.

I never said absolutely no. I said lets get what we were shopping for initially and then down the road we can get a bigger TV for the livingroom. And, since we don't have a lot of cash laying around my hair gets cut at Supercuts, I dye my own hair, and rarely buy new clothes and when I do I hit up the clearance racks.

Sorry to have to go against a fellow man but I think you should stick to your guns and advocate for the one you went shopping for in the first place. Them damn TV stores are so alluring and tempting to all and don't mind giving it to you with the old no money down scam. Well most people realize that they are not doing you any favour by this offer and make up for it once the payments are to begin. Good luck to you and hopefully your man will realize that you are right and being fiscally responsible someday.

Make a deal with him.
If he really "needs" or wants this TV then mention something you really "need" or want that you'd like to get for yourself as well.
Men are so huge on electronics. It's like a part of them. To keep them from them is really hard on them.
Maybe you could even show him the income vs the outgo of the money and bills and then tell him exactly what he'd need to 1. save for the TV or 2. work harder to pay it off or make up for the loss of money towards it.

Those are just a few solutions.
Saying absolutely no to him would be like him saying absolutely no to you getting that beautiful dress and matching shoes you've wanted for a long time... or saying no to you getting your hair cut, colored and styled. I know electronics can cost a lot more, but hey, men are expensive in that area and women are expensive in their up-keep.

WOW... totally a guy thing! First of all , do you really need a large t.v. in the bedroom? The first thing I think of is having to decorate around it. BUT.. the important thing is that your hubby is happy. I would tell him you think we need to wait and think about it. Besides, the best deals are after Thanksgiving. If it is an impulse buy (just to compete) maybe he will change his mind.
Best of Luck!

Men like their "stuff". If your mortgage or rent is paid and you can afford the bigger TV, then let him have it. You'll reap the rewards of being the "cool" wife and you can milk it for a while!
