If a parent does not report their child is being molested can they be held legally?

My mother did not report it, she says because back then people did not report such things 1982, 1985. I told her she should have told!

Yes thats a crime as far as I know.

Yes, in pretty much every state, the parent can be held liable for doing nothing about it and not reporting it. Most Law Enforcement agencies tend to get quite... irritated by such, cops have a soft spot for kids (myself included)

It's 18. The people who told you this may have been confused by the fact that in most cases the non custodial parent (when the parents are not together) usually is court ordered to continue paying child support until the age of 21 IF the child is enrolled in and attending college.

Absolutely! I work in a women's prison and there are several women there who failed to report and now are serving time. Some of them have even been labeled sex offenders and can have no contact with their children until they are 18. You MUST report.

accessory to the fact. if they know a crime is being committed and don't report it the are an accomplice to the crime. is your child being molested. report it now.

Not only are they legally responsible to report it, they are morally responsible to report any sexual abuse.

WHO CAN PROVE THEY KNEW?

AND YES PARENT CAN BE HELD LIABLE OR ACCOUTABLE
FOR CERTAIN ASPECTS OF CHILD ENDANGERING.
