Everyone gets their period when they are ready, generally between the ages of 8 and 17. Don't worry about it. You should be glad it hasn't come yet, hun, cuz it is awful...But I have absolutely no idea why your doctor would say you might have to take pills because you don't have your period yet! This is perfectly normal. Everyone's body is different. I got mine when I was 12 (now I'm 14), some of my friend's got it when they were like 10, and others haven't gotten it yet. It's not a big deal if you haven't had it yet. Don't worry. Talk to a female adult you can trust if you're truly paranoid about this, you need some reassurance. And, just be aware then when you do get your period it can be very irregular, you may even skip months at a time. If you don't know a whole lot about periods I would suggest talking to a female adult you can trust so you know what to expect. Don't worry, hun, you're fine and there's absolutely nothing wrong with you at all. I said it before, but it's important, just remember everyone's body is different. There is no "right" age to get your period or a "correct" cycle.

Everyone starts at different times, I know you're tired of hearing that, but that's how it is. And trust me on this, you're not missing anything. If you don't want to take pills, don't. If your DR. is talking about birth control, one day you might consider taking those to reduce your period. Enjoy it while it lasts girl.

Periods can start as young as nine ( that's when I started mine) or as late as 16...every young woman is different. With your mum present make sure the docs talks to you about all the possible treatments and their consequences and then you and mum decide which would be right for you.
Some girls who are athletes start periods later than others because they exercise alot and may not eat enough either.
Mum and you and the doc will find the right answer for you. Good luck.

Get a second opinion from another Doctor...preferably one that is recommended by friend or family member. I hope you figure it out...you shouldn't be stressing over things this much at age 14. Good luck and GOD bless you...

you know what sweety i had a friend that didnt get her period til she was 17, she had the same concerns as you did but came to terms with that everybody is different and will get bodily functions at all stages of life!!!!plus its a blessing to not have it trust me!!! you should enjoy the time you do not have it.....cuz you'll be having it the most of your life. in due time your body will click in and you will get it! dont worry so hard, you got plenty of time.

Agreed. Enjoy it while you can, but don't worry. I didn't get my first period until just before I turned 15. While you should listen to what your doctor tells you, don't worry about it until he does.

Find out how old Mom and sisters if any started theirs? That usually will give you an idea of what to expect.
