Maybe the question is "What do you want to know about cows"?
I have a herd of cows with calves and one working bull. Most generally the herd is low maintenance. You must provide drinking water and grass/hay for grazing. Daily we ride the fences to make sure that nothing has damaged the fence (deer and other cattle). During the winter you must provide enough feed or hay. We normally feed a large round bale of coastal every 36 hours. Plus adding 1000 pounds of cake (cattle feed) per week. If the weather is freezing we have to make sure that the water isn't frozen in order for them to have fresh water. We provide 200 gals of lick feeder (protein additive) to encourage better health and eating habits. Our choice of year for the calves are born is during the winter time. December-April. This insures that when the calves are old enough to eat grass, the grass will be nice and green. We work our cattle 2 times yearly. Once in mid spring to cut calves (making the boys into steers) and vacinate all the calves. Also dehornng as needed. Worming the adult cattle. Place indentification tags in the ears. Sell cavles that were born in the previous year to give the mothers time to recover and be in best health for their delivery later in the year. Moving the herd to the summer pasture, to give the hay pasture time to grow and fertalize so we can cut hay in the fall. Our last working time is in October we worm the cattle seperate the calves that was born early winter. Check to make sure all the cows are bred. Move the hay into the barn and move cattle back into the winter pasture. Yet on a daily bases we make sure all the cattle are where there supposed to be and that no one is ill or have injuries.

i would not atempt to answer your queston in tenthousand words or less but if you don,t already know anything about cattle be sure you do your homework (takes about five years) before you try keeping cattle if that,s what you have in mind

they eat grass and corn and drink water not milk. unless they're calfs. then they drink milk. they're very dumb even though they're cute. the bulls are mean and the girls are nice sometimes if they're tame.
