As a male line grand-daughter of the sovereign she is entitled to be known as HRH Princess Louise. However, at the time of her parents marriage in 1999 it was decided that any children of the marriage would have titles of the children of an Earl as opposed to HRH Prince/Princess. It is thought that her parents wanted to give her a normal chance at life without having to carry the burden of such a title.

Despite this decision, no letters patent were ever issued to make this decision official, therefore she is still technically HRH Princess Louise and could at some point in the future choose to be known by her rightful title if she wishes. For the time being she is commonly known as Lady Louise Windsor.

She is legally Princess Louise of Wessex although the Earl and Countess of Wessex requested that she be styled as a daughter of an Earl so she will stay a extra regularly occurring a lot less media imperative life. Upon her majority she would declare her identify if she needs.

Marilyn is correct. However I was disappointed by this bizarre decision, and think Anne's and Margaret's children should be HRHs as well, but the system is sexist - more sexist than it was before 1917!

Because they chose to not give her the princess title. However, she's still in the long line of succession, even Zara Phillips is.

She is not the daughter of the monarch. I think they are cutting down on the number of princely titles.
