No, not necessarily. However, if you called someone a racist name in front of others, they could possibly sue you for slander and defamation of character, saying that you are making a bad name of them.
But usually, people won't do that. They'll just wanna beat your a**. :)

Yes (if it is to their face, offends them and stands a chance of inciting a violent reaction).....it can be classed as menacing or harassment, with "bias-motivated" string attached.
It is NOT protected under the freedom of speech ammendment!!!!!!!
I would like to add, for those of you who believe it is protected by the First Amendment (Freedom of Speech)...speech is not protected if it is classed as "fighting words".....that is:
-when words or other communication uses
-insulting or abrasive language and it is
-addressed to a person on a face-to-face basis and it is
-causing a likelihood that "the person addressed will make an immediate violent response"

You have the right to free speech.
Now, it you do it on the job, you could get fired. And as several people have already mentioned, it could put you in line for a major a** whup.
