the republicans probably would have retained the Senate?
In many ways, if the pleas of the democrats and third parties were heard and acted upon, republicans would have much more power this January.

It is true, the Democrats called for his resignation late this past summer but were blown off.

By staying until the end of the year, Rumsfeld will get his place in the history book, but it won't be flattering.

I'm sure there are MANY Republicans who lost their seats who are PO'd with the President for not asking Rumsfeld to leave sooner.

This is one time the President's loyalty did a disservice to the men/women in the military, the country, and fellow Republicans.

No, people wanted change, they gave the Republicans a chance and in the public eye (not necessarily mine) they failed. In my opinion I believe that Dr. Robert Gates is the best choice for the new Secretary of Defense. He has a great history with this country, and here at A&M he was a great leader. He went out and did things for us. But there is no irony in Rumsfeld leaving office. It was even rumored that Bush went to him and said your out no matter what. People want results in Iraq. If the news media was not biased and told the whole truth then maybe, maybe the Republicans would still control Congress. Other than that, I find no irony in Rumsfeld leaving office.

I wonder. It seems more like this was a referendum on Bush and his war.
