When a computer slows down, mostly it is caused by a corrupted OS, but in some cases it could be a hardware failure. The windows XP gets corrupted by a virus, spyware or any malicious application or program. Be careful on what you download and install on the system, even on what you click on. There are lot of good things you can find in the internet but be careful there's a lot of harmful things there too.
Creating several changes on the software configuration or settings could also affect the performance of your system, such as customizing the desktop etc. If you want your system to be on its optimum performance, try to use the basic but if you can't help installing some thing, jsut make sure it's from a reliable manufacturer.
if your system is low, ran a full scan on the system, if you get a virus, do a clean install, if you have a dell consider PC restore, but backup everything first, goodluck!

It doesn't slow the pc down just the browsing it takes about 2-5 secs longer to open a page when ie6 is instant thats the only slowing down. If your pc is slow then you probably have an infection.

I have had no issues with IE7 but I've seen a few people complain that they think it is slowing down their PC.
So I did a little test for myself. I uninstalled IE7 and reverted back to IE6 for a day and found no difference in speed. I was still realizing slowness in my PC.
So I've been testing my internet connection speed and I find it is running real slow. Down to 200K at times.
Try testing your connection speed. Here is a site to do so.

Hope this helps you figure things out.

See if all other applications/programs are slow or only when u connect to internet. If only the internet browsing is slow, u can check the and enable the proxy server option. (Tools->Internet Options->connections->Lan settings->check the automactically detach settings)

New ain't always better, what did you think you were missing with the old version? "New" usually means "More"! you know, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what you know works!
case in point of the old adage "the grass always looks greener elsewhere, until you get there and find out it ain't so....
