I heard this questions once with a big group of friends. All the guys said "respected"; all the girls said "loved".

Absolutely respect. I don't believe you can truly love someone if you don't respect them.

I would much rather have friends that respect me and appreciate me for me than a boyfriend/husband that says he loves me but treats me like dirt and speaks down to me.

Respect is one of the most important things anyone can have. People have fought and died for it. I could never love someone if I didn't respect them as a person.

To have both would be ideal. However, you can be loved and not be respected. Look at the men who are abusive to their wife/gf. They love them but they do not respect them.
So I would have to choose respect, because if someone respects you, then they do love you or will get there, but not the other way around.

i say respected.. u can be loved and not respected which would defeat the purpose of being in love w/someone who has no respect for u.. but if u have respect for me, then their's a possibility that i could be loved or even loved as a friend...

If you love someone then you will respect them as a person. If you respect someone then you still love them. So I don't think you can have one without the other.

Not all love is romantic love.

I would rather be loved, simply because if you love me, the respect will be automatic.

I respect people but I do not necessarily have love for them because that emotion, to me, is very deep - not something I throw out to the general public.

Love is a much more passionate emotion and not something people will feel compelled to do. I respected my ex-husband but certainly lost love for him.

I think part of love is respect for the other person.

I think I would take Loved because I believe that to truly be loved, you are respected too.
