1. What is an average price range for a basic Mac - I mainly want to do online surfing and some basic word processing.

2. How are they with photos?

3. Do you know about the Mac book they have? Where you can upload photos to them and even add text to create a story - they charge about $30 and you get a hardbound book with everything you uploaded? Have you done it? Were you satisfied?

4. How hard would it be for a long-time "regular" PC user to switch to a Mac?

5. What are its biggest drawbacks?

Thanks.

1 The cheapest Mac you can get new is the Mac Mini about $599, but it doesn't come with a monitor, mouse, keyboard, or speakers. Just the computer. You could always take these off your old computer (odds are they will work with the Mini). For word processing you'll need to buy new software. Microsoft makes a Word for Mac, but Apple also has their own program called "Pages" that is available with a PowerPoint-like program in "iWork"

2 They work well with photos, Mac prides themselves on being compatible with a lot of USB devices (Digital Camera, Scanner, Photo printer, etc) without needing to install drivers. All current Macs come with iPhoto, which allows you to keep all your photos organized. iPhoto also comes with some basic photo editing tools, such as "Red Eye" removal and cropping. You can also make slide shows with your own music.

3 I've heard of the book, but I haven't purchased the it. The option is available within the program iPhoto (nice and convenient)

4 For a long time PC user, the Mac will take some getting used to. It's not an extreme change, just a lot of little differences. I suggest finding an Apple store in your area to just fiddle with a Mac and get the hang of it before buying. Apple has a tool on their website to locate the nearest store here: http://www.apple.com/buy/

5 The biggest drawbacks is that most software is made for a PC and some websites aren't fully compatible with the Mac Operating system

Hope That helps, if you have any other questions, check out http://www.apple.com/getamac/ or feel free to email me (address in profile)

I have used Macs since 1996 and I can tell you that they are the most reliable computer on the planet. The average price range is around $1099 for a basic iMac computer. Macs are great with photos. The MacBook is a laptop. I have a MacBook Pro laptop, and it has been great!

If you want to do word processing, you will have to buy Microsoft Office for Mac, which is available as a 30 day trial version when you get the Mac. There really are no drawbacks unless you are a hard core gamer. Many games that are made for PCs aren't made for Macs. However, now that you can run Windows XP on a Mac, this problem is really solved.

As for your photo question, I have never used their services to make a book, but I know people that have and they are very satisfied with them. Please feel free to email me or contact me directly with my screen name: csalm87 (that's on AIM) if you have anymore questions. I hope this helped, and good luck!

there's a lock that can be utilized so a password demands for use as well the compter. However if matters are that dangerous at residence then possibly making use of the web choices might be tips on how to cross. U could make the consumer boot dossier so unusable that they wont desire to make use of the laptop. Putting that prime a lock could be a critical challenge if some thing is going fallacious with it. Hiding the plugin, pulling the twine out of the again, shutting off the transfer within the again are simpler methods to quit a few folks.
