Which white people are you talking about? No one that I know has a problem with anyone, black or white, discussing slavery and learning about it. I do have an issue with those who pick the most outrageous incidents and state as a fact "We know your evil, wicked, dirty ancestors beat, tortured and killed millions of innocent slaves". Millions killed is an extreme exaggeration. Think about it for a minute. The slaveowner's livelihood depended on slave labor. They were valuable property. What modern farmer would deliberately wreck his tractor or risk damaging it by purposely exceeding its mechanical limits? And, concerning your point #4, are the Black Africans who accepted those guns in exchange for slaves any less responsible than the white slavers who offered them?

I'm from Canada and the issues between blacks and whites are not the same up here. I personally find the history of slavery to be upsetting and just downright inhumane. I can only imagine what it must have been like. But because I am from Canada I also don't understand the hate between the blacks and whites in the US. Why can't people just get along and respect one another? We don't need to forget what happened but people definitely need to get over it and move on. Black people have come so far, but it seems that they hate more now than they ever did. I definitely think you have the right to learn about the history of slavery, actually l think everyone should have to learn about it, in a NON-BIASED way. No influence from PRO Black community or the WHITE ONLY clubs...whatever kinds of groups there are in the states. Mankind have made a lot of mistakes over the thousands of years. Today's problems are not the same as they were and I for one think that educating the American population on the truth, un-biased and not influenced would put an end to all the hate and anger. Another thing to ponder was it not Christianity that influenced white man to manipulate and abuse other cultures. Anyways, I'm sorry you feel that white people don't want to own up to the history, but it may also be that because it happened several generations ago and they simply don't know what to say. It was not their own actions it was of people they did not even know. It is hard to apologize for something you did not participate in. The people responsible died long ago and all we can do now is remember the disgrace of their actions and learn from it. Try to eliminate the notion that whites are better than blacks or any race for that matter because they are not. We are all equally wonderful, beautiful, intelligent human beings regardless of our history, colour, religion and ancestory.

because:
1. Nobody's blaming me
2. We have gotten over slavery but we don't have to learn about it
3. Nobody's using slavery as an excuse for success
4. We know that Africans offered slaves to Whites for guns
5. We know your good, innocent, clean ancestors loved, nurtured and bore millions of innocents

Every race of people has been subjected to slavery. Mostly at the hands of their own
people. Slave traders didn't run around Africa with nets trying to catch slaves.
That was seldom done and for sport. Most of the slaves were sold to the traders by the African chiefs. Those people already being slaves at the hands of the warlords.
As it was the practice of African nations to assimilate the men of age of conquered
nations into the army. And the old men, women, and children were used as slaves.
Today in Niger black on black slavery still exists. And black muslims are enslaving
black christians in Sudan.
Atheist, whatever, you're just another self-righteous twit!

I'm a white person and I for one.....would NOT claim those things....that's a part of U.S. history all whites should be ashamed of. I would like to learn more about the subject as well. As far as being afraid....I'd be afraid of bringing it up with a black person just because I HAVE had an experience where the person did not enjoy discussing it and I know it can be touchy with some black people....

I am not afraid to talk about slavery.Just make sure you know your facts before you talk about it.
I think slavery should be taught in school. Then the truth would be told.
The history is ugly. But all races have been slaves at one time or another.
Most recently the Jews.
Bible slaves are not the same as you think of them.
I am Irish and American Indian, both have been slaves.
But I look forward to the coming of my Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST.
Keep your eyes looking forward-learn from the pass and move on.
I LEARNED THIS FROM A BLACK PASTOR,
WILL YOU CALL HIM A UNCLE TOM?

The thought of black people learning anything besides how to play basketball or football, how to get a record deal, or how to do drugs amuses me.
I always talk about slavery. I think it was a golden era in American history, and we really need to bring it back. Look what happens when we set these mongrels free!

I understand your point, but i really i don't care if white people feel uncomfortable talking about slavery. To be honest i don't really care about their thoughts in general. We as black people should concern ourselves with our own issues and education instead wasting our energy trying to dialog with white people. For years they have imposed there views and mindsets on us. Slavery is evil thing that happened that we as black people must never forget, however we must move on from that and look towards the future to rebuild ourselves. As for blaming white people, I don't, it just in their nature to try and dominate and control. Look at the world in general and you will see where most of the problems stem from. However as they old saying goes "what goes around comes around."

Hmm. . . Japan and China, they're all Asian, why would they kill each other. French and Germans . . . They're all Europeans, they should all be united. Hmm. . . Lets group all the Africans on the second largest continent as one group of people and act like people were selling their own family members into slavery. Lets not recognize that entirely different groups of people with different languages and customs. It just sounds better that way. :-)

I hope that the black people learn that it was actually other black people that sold them out of Africa. & Also, Not one single person is alive today that was done that way, so let it go! I have Native American heritage, you know Indian, & my people were done wrong too! I'm not going around blaming people for it! Get over it! A good Idea would be to educate yourselves on other races being done wrong in history. I know a white girl that got raped by two black guys, did she deserve it because of her ancestors? Should I be mad at you because you are black so it is your fault those guys did that? Did you send them out to do that? Isn't that what you are saying, if you skin is the same color as someone's who did something wrong, then they are to blame also?
