A truly torn rotator cuff wouldn't allow you to pick your arm up over you head. Alternately, if someone put your arm up at shoulder height, you wouldn't be able to hold it their yourself. At the time of injury you would have felt intense pain, had moderate swelling in your shoulder, and may have had numbness or tingling down your arm to your fingers. If you suspect that you have torn your rotator cuff, you need to get to your doctor and have it checked out. Here is some information for you to read.

Well, you'd have intense pain in your shoulder, especially if you try to raise your hand over your head, or reach behind your back (internal rotation of the shoulder). It's too painful to sleep on the affected side, and you feel weak in trying to move your arm.

If you think you or a friend has a torn rotator cuff, get yourself to an MD and a physical therapist soon for treatment.
