MY DUMB TEACHER ASSIGHNED US SOME STUFF AND DIDNT EXPLAIN...
HERE IT IS!

A mountain climber is scaling a 400-foot cliff. The climber starts at the bottom at t=0 and climbs at a contant rate of 124 feet per hour.

1. What is the slope in the linear model for this situation?

2. The y-intercept represents the height at which the climber begins scaling the cliff. What is the y-intercept of the model?

3.Use the slope and y-intercept to write the linear model for the distance y (in feet) that the climber climbs in terms of time t (in hours) use slope intercept form.

4. After 3 hours, has the climber reached the top of the cliff?

5. Use the equation in excercise 9 to determine the time that the climber will reach the top of the cliff.

OMG THANX SOO MUCH TO THOSE THAT ANSWER THIS... 10 PTS FUR SHURE. IF I CAN GIVE OUT MORE I WOULD!! (now i have to go write an essay)

ThAnK yOu!

R-e-a-l-l-y? Your teacher never taught you anything about slope intercept? You should have that nasty old teacher fired...Don't 'cha just hate it whean they mess with 'ya like that. Bet ya have to write that essay and they never taught you how to write either.....

There are 3rd graders in China that can do that problem!

The slope is 124, because he goes up 124 feet in 1 hour.

Since he starts at the "bottom" of the cliff, this would be 0 feet. (The top would be 400.) So the y-intercept is 0 .. or the origin (0,0). (It would also be possible to call the top 0 and the bottom -400, but it's easier this way.)

y = 124t is the equation in slope/intercept form. (You could put +0 at the end if you wanted.)

After 3 hours, he has climbed 124*3 or 372 feet. So, no he's not at the top yet.

To see how long it takes to reach the top, set the equation equal to 400 ... 400 = 124t. If you divide by 124, the asnwer is about 3.226 hours.

1. the slope is 124

2. y-int is 400

3. 400 = 124x

4. 400 = 124*3 No

5. x = 3.22 hours

I am sure that these are right because I just took a test in the linear equations and I got 100. Hope it helped you. :)

What you need to do is to attempt this problem. Use scrap paper to work it out. If you don't get it, then take the scraps with you to class the next day and tell the teacher that you did not fully understand the problem and show him/her that you honestly tried to attempt it. No offense, but no one can do your homework but you, and if you don't understand it, you have to talk it out with your teacher.
