it is very competitive to get into the film program
please be aware though some schools like usc do not accept (unless it has changed in the last 10 yrs.) you into the fim school until you are a junior so check out the schools policies don't be disappointed if you do not get into the film school at all at that point they choose you you don't choose them
that happened at usc with 3 of my sons friends at the start of their jr.year
and they either had to change their major or try to transfer to another school that would accept them in their film school

UCLA, USC (California), NYU and Yale have great film studies programs with concentrations in production, writing, cinematography, etc.

csun has a good film dept hard to get into though
