I've had fantasies of doing just that, packing it all in and finding a nice quiet hill to live on in the bush, or an island all to myself.
I don't think you are crazy at all, the ones who need more, more, more, are the ones who are crazy in my eyes.

Now I ain't saying she's a gold digger but.......

However that is a drastic change - If your children are grown and out of the house or about to leave for college or something - think about a condo - still upscale but less money - moving from the suburbs with all the hype to the country is too drastic come to a happy medium

why dont you and your wife take a vacation. You can rent a really nice log cabin for a bout a week...and get away from the city...or better yet why dont you buy a log cabin so when ever you want to get away from the city you have somewhere to go...some people are not meant for the country and some not meant for the city so compromise

Sounds like a very cost effective plan.We don't need all the fancy things we have but it seems that people with a nice home allways got to keep up with the Jones. Its a good idea to cut back and save that money for other more important things.

You're not crazy at all. Hell I'm not married but people around me about drive me crazy. That dream of living a solitude life in a log cabin looks better and better everyday.

If your wife thinks you have lost your mind, I think you need to rethink before selling. You do not need to flee to the countryside to change your buying habits and to make your life simplier. Maybe your wanting to is just the point you need to make with your wife. You need to have a long talk with your wife about the direction your lives are going in...good luck!

I think you are headed in the right direction. In this world today, it seems as though all that identifies us is our income level and what toys we can buy. I believe that true happiness must be found from within and not without. You may have to explain this to your wife, however. Good luck!

Change is scary. Drastic change is very scary! But, it takes a lot of courage to step out from where you are. I know a lot of people who would like to do what you are suggesting (myself included), but just too scared of all the "what ifs".
