History is interpretation. At least, the job of the historian is interpretation.
Things happened, but what did they mean? How did they affect later generations?

History is a recorded series of events that have an impact on something. So if a similar problem occurs in the future, we are able to look back on history and make a guess on what not to do. Or we are able to look back on history before engaging in something that might present a problem and avoiding it.

Techincally saying that "I ate dinner tonight" is but it isn't worthwhile or distant enough to be considered by any historian
