If a batsman hits a ball and it strikes the wicket opposite him (on the other end of the place they run) what is the call? Like many Americans, I know very little about cricket but after watching the Ashes in 2005 while on a holiday to Scotland, i appreciate that it is a fine sport. Long... but very interesting.

yeah its basically considered a runout if the bowler can get a finger to touch the ball and the batsman is out of his crease. if his still in his crease then he is safe, if he is out of his crease but he bowler DOESN"T touch the ball then he is still safe. they also get no runs.

yeah it is annoying when ur going for the batting side, i remmber micheal hussey was on the last ball in some ODI and he went for the 4 to get a half centry but it hit the stumps

If the ball hits the wicket at the other end and if the batsman at the other end is out of the crease when the bail is dislodged, the batsman at the other end will be run out.

However, if the ball hits the wicket at the other end and crosses over the boundary, the batsman who hit the ball gets 4 runs.

If the ball does not corss the boundaries and the batsman runs for the run before the ball is fielded and passed on to the bowler, the batsman will get the number of runs he completed before the ball is fielded and goes to the bowler of any other fielder as long as the bowler or fielded does not hit the wicket with the ball.

bad luck. the ball is still in play, so if runs are able to be scored, runs are scored (can run, or go to the boundary)

its usually bad luck as the ball would normally go for a '4' but end up going nowhere and no runs are able to be scored.

It does not have a name, because it is not that important of a play.

If the ball is touched by the bowler on the way, then the batsman at the bowlers end can be run out if hes out of his crease, which is also considered bad luck.
