One little historical tidbit that George W. should have paid attention to was the former head of the KGB telling us that we would be foolish to start a war in Afghanistan...he was there for 9 years and siad we could never win.....good history!

Well, there is a famous saying...."Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.". It means that if you understood what happened in the past, you might not make the same mistake someone else did.

For math, if you figure out enough about math, you can see patterns and statistics. You can even see math in something so simple as the World Series of Poker. I think every successful gambler can tell you the odds that he or she will get a certain card, how much they should bet or raise, and how many numbers are on their checks.

Finally, good spelling and grammar makes you look more sophisticated and can get you a better job, and puts you in demand for things like storytelling for profit. Imagine someone paying you for writing that really great book about life in a small town or whatever your imagination set free.

On one hand, a great education. On the other hand, "Would you like fries with that?"

History - so that we can learn from the mistakes of our fathers past.

Math - so we can live in the world and understand our pay checks and understand how to budget and invest our money.

English - so we can communicate effectively and obtain good jobs.

All of these subjects have a purpose. They all have one thing in common that is very important too. They teach you how to think and rationalize which is the only way you're going to survive out there on your own. I know school sucks and you have better things to do with your time. If you just stick with it though, the rewards in the future will be far greater than that big party your missing because you have to study for a big exam.

Trust me, I went straight to work after high school. It sucks even more when you can barely make ends meet and can't go out with your friends because you have no money. I ended up going back to school and have a better job and am a much happier person for it now!

I lived and worked as an EFL teacher in Italy. I used English everyday when I was teaching my students. I had to know all the parts of speech, different verb tenses and other information about the structure of our language. I used my knowledge of history to construct classroom discussions that were engaging for the students without ever being offensive (for example, we never had a discussion about why Mussolini is super-cool). I used my math skills to check that my monthly paycheque corresponded to what I expected to be paid... every time it was wrong it was in the school's favor, so it's good I checked myself!

I use EVERYTHING I learned in school. I thought I didn't need to know Boolean algebra when I learned it in 1967 but it came in handy in 1983 when I can do do computerized database searching.

I used math and graphing skills to design the wall tiles in my bathroom.

I used math skills to design my daylily garden. I used my science skills in planting.

I used my history skills to practice my essay writing. Along the way, I won several writing awards and a current events contest. In addition, knowing history has helped make me an informed voter.

My English skills are used every time I write a letter, read a book, or write memos, lesson plans, and other communications.

So it is up to you. Do you want a job where you will use those skills? If you are planning on being a couch potato, you don't need them but don't expect me to want to pay your welfare check.

You can use English here at Yahoo Answers. for example, you wrote "gona" which is not a word.

You can use math to count the hundreds of dollars per month you'll make at Wendy's.
