Technically, 8 is not correct.

Mitsubishi Diamante should have front and back disk brakes. The front 2 discs have 2 pads each, that's total 4 pads.

The back discs, like the front, have another 4 pads, so far totalling 8 pads.

HOWEVER, all back disks are only for active braking (braking when we step the brake pedal), AND ALL cars have a handbrake, usually deployed by hand by pulling a handbrake lever (usually because some cars like Mercs and Toyotas handbrake feature comes at left foot brake), the handbrake section of a rear brake disk car should also have a "Drum" brake activated when we pull our handbrake, which have 2 brakepads on each drum,....

Totalling the Diamante with 12 brakepads.

There are 2 pads per wheel. So 4 sets if you do both the front and rear.

2 per axle, I'm guessing you have rotors on all for so you would need eight. Either 4 pads on the front and 4 shoes in the rear drum type or eight pads for all 4 rotors(discs).
