Some people don't have the opportunity to get better jobs. For those stuck in a job paying minimum wage and trying to survive, a pay increase makes living bareable instead of almost impossible.

Also, for those saying a minimum wage increase is a wash for those effected are not looking at the whole picture. It might be a wash for the economy as whole because prices will go up to compensate, but those making minimum wage will NOT feel the effects of that as much as middle and upper class. Those making minimum wage would definitely benefit from minimum wage increase.

Minimum wages are wanting to be raised because of the inflation rates which keep rising and the wages are not being kept up with it. It has been proven that a family of 4 with both parents working, each parent needs to make a minimum of $13 an hour just to be able to afford the bare minimum(food, heat/electric, clothing) this also includes a home payment or rent. If you include health and dental insurance, car payments, phone bill, ect. both parents would need to make almost double that. Now, if you add in cable, going out to eat atleast 1 time per month, emergency car repairs or home repairs, gas for the car, I could go on and on, both parents would need to make an astronomical amount of money per hour and never get to spend time with their children or each other.

I honestly think the minimum wage should be raised to help all families and those that don't have children so they can afford what they need. I make $12 per hour and still can hardly afford to pay the bare minimum without giving up things that I need. I cant afford a car, can barely afford to much. I also have a college education. So, if someone with a college education can barely make ends meet, why should minimum wage be kept the same? Think about it!

There are some people who can't afford to go to college to get a better job and have no other choice but to work for minimum wage. How are those unfortunate people supposed to pay to go to college when they can barely afford to feed and clothe themselves and their families on $5-$6 an hour???

So please, think about this for awhile, what if it was u that worked for minimum wage, had a wife and children and could barely afford the basics? Wouldn't you want a higher wage and be able to go to school to better not only your life but your families as well?

The minimum wage is set to control the natural tendencies of greedy companies. Since a company's prime motivation is profit, if they could they would pay as little as possible to their employees, even if it meant the employees couldn't possibly survive on how little they were paid.
Our government recognizes that a socially responsible government needs to balance that inherent greed of companies, and allow even the citizens that can only get the type of jobs that don't require college degrees or extensive training the ability to earn a decent living, so they instituted a minimum wage.
Right now, nobody can live off what minimum wage pays -- the rate hasn't kept up with inflation, so it needs to be raised.

Because they think it will raise their standard of living. What they don't understand is that it makes costs to produce things go up which push prices up, and they are no better off than they were. It also drives many small businesses to cut staff because their budgets can not meet the new wages thus jobs are lost.

simple... people who earn minimum wage want it to be raised so their jobs will be sent overseas and they'll be able to collect unemployment. God bless the Democrats who'll make this dream a reality.
