I tired a birthing tub with my first child but it was only a largish bath and so I couldn't move around in it. I didn't like it. I had a long birth and ended up with a c-section. Now I'm 8 months pregnant and would LOVE to try the birthing pool again (a full sized one) but the MD's are worried about my scar rupturing (there's about a 1% chance...) so they won't let me. BUT, that said, many MANY women find it very beneficial. You may find the water relaxing, you can move around and the water helps support your weight, and it may speed labor and it may hurt less!! And if you don't like it you can simply get out. Read up on it, several people have written about it (see below). I wish I had the option of trying it, good luck to you.

Almost all hospitals do have tubs... but my hospital does not use it as a "birthing tub" just a "labor tub"... meaning, you can't give birth in the tub, you can only go through the stages of labor in the tub for relaxation, but once you are pushing the baby out, you have to be OUT of the tub.

You should really ask your OB about this because it varies from hospital to hospital.

With my first child, I stayed in the tub until right before he was born. It was my easiest labor. With the other 3 that was not an option. I have heard that water births are easier and from my laboring in water experience, I can believe that.

My hospital didn't, but it's a crappy little one. Take a tour of the hospital you plan on delivering at to see if they offer it. My husband and I are talking about having the next one in water. I've known of a woman who had a water homebirth, and she didn't tear or anything, the pictures were beautiful!

i quite don'y know about giving birth in a tub, i think it would be kind of gross with all the blood and fluids in the same water as me.
