The Green Man is not particularly liked by the Church as he represents the pagan aspect of spirituality and is said to be much older than Jesus, even though the Green Man effigies are to be found in many churches throughout Europe, was a way of getting pagans into church. Church later told people that green was unlucky and associated green with sexual promiscuity and witches,go here The Green Man,The Bagpiper, Highland Piper, to look the rest up,but green is not unlucky, unless as the saying goes blue n green should never be seen, but i like the mix of colours personally, good luck witch1

Apparently its the favourite colour of the fairies and they resent mortals wearing it, though the experts say that is ridiculous as there is very little evidence that fairies were particularly partial to green, the only time I have ever heard of green been unlucky is at a wedding, particularly a May wedding, superstition says green at a wedding in May curse abounds this here day, green cars are meant to be unlucky too, that's because they don't sell very well, with superstition you have to make of it as you will, most of them are just old wives tales basically.

I have heard of this and I am a firm believer in the superstition, I wont buy anything green I wont wear anything green, and if I was given a gift of something green I would give it back to the person who gave it me. My mum wouldn't allow anything green in the house. I was always told that if you wear green it brings great sadness. I don't know for certain though why it is deemed so unlucky.

I really don't think green is unlucky. in actual fact, it must be a lucky colour because most of nature is green. I love wearing it, I decorated my bedroom a lovely green and make beautiful natural crafts in green.I honestly don't understand where these superstitions come from. like anything over the whole history of mankind, someone says something and it sticks. you asked why is it SUPPOSED to be unlucky. it is only supposititon. not fact.

I think I'm right in saying it's from the late 14th Century..It came from the Middle Classes due to being murdered and robbed by those wearing green to blend into the woods.

A British thing! Originally applied to cars following a spate of deaths and bad accidents when British Racing Green was commonly used throughout British racing in both professional and amateur racing.
