The unassailable debate assertion is that god does not exist. The bible is for control of the masses. Actually" religion is opium for the masses" Carl Marx. Take away the belief that god exists and there is is no prohibition against gays.Gay marriage then becomes the same as hetero marriage, a contractual union between people for the purpose of establishing family.
Judging from the amount of marriage misery found on this site and the belief that gay people are bad somehow why would one not want to allow gays to enjoy the same level of" bliss"?

Seriously, If you wish to win a debate the method is simply to negate the assertion that religion is based on fact which it is not.
It is based on belief. You believe gay marriage is wrong due to your religion but your religion is based on nonfactual information. Therefore your belief cannot be imposed on a person of differing belief based on what they chose to believe. A Democratic form of government is morally bankrupt which attempts to impose its will on the citizen of differing belief due to religions which are not adhered to by the whole. Your argument then escapes whether gay marriage is right or wrong only that it is not to be legislated.
If you allow the opposing group to dictate the argument based upon religious belief you have lost. If you are in the United States there is enough support in the constitution and bill of rights to prohibit imposition of law based upon religion.

Remember its a debate. You only need see the logic and present it. You need not believe it to win . Disprove their assertrions and they have no support.
Marriage ," a blending of components or elements" does not address sexuality( Random House English Dictionary). Make sure to use a neutral definition. Do not allow the opponent to state the definition.

What is gay marriage hurting? Is it effecting our individual lifestyles, or our own marriages and families? To me the answer is NO. Two women or two men being married isn't killing anyone or taking away from anyone elses household or family. People concern themselves with things that have no baring on their own individual lives. People always want to throw religion in it but well over half the people who claim to be religious aren't living by the great book so why throw stones? To me, gay marriage is just fine because it has no baring on others lives. People should focus on things that do like illegal immigration, and this dumb as president, Bush, over there getting all our men and women killed in Iraq. Be against something that effects our lives and our childrens lives. Not something that people "feel" is immoral. Who's to say what is and isn't? That's the problem with the worl today, too many people have too many opinions based on their own beliefs. Peopl can't just live their lives anymore. Good luck with the debate!

Gay people should have the same rights to marriage and all it entails. If you have two life partners who have been together for 25 years, if there is no option to make their relationship legal then what happens when one of them is seriously ill? Who makes the decision of whether or not they will be resuscitated? What happens to their assets that they both worked for all those years if one of them dies? What about spousal benefits when they retire? Medical benefits? Should they not have a right to all of those? If they are in a committed relationship then should we not encourage them to be able to have it recognized legally? If they have a stable home to provide a child should they not be able to have a family too? Those are just a few of the questions that you can pose and you can say that since there will always be committed gay relationships they too need safeguards in place so they do not get shoved to the side even if the other person wishes them to make their decisions in times of crisis.

Here's one of my arguements:

Those of you that are against gay marriage...that judge it and say it's a sin.....how do you know God considers them being gay any worse of a sin than YOUR judgement of them?

Has God personally spoken to you and told you that judgement is only worth 2 points on the sinning scale...but gay marriage is worth 20? How about divorce...God says that a sin..and most people against gay marriage have NO problem divorcing. But again..he must have personally told everyone that THAT sin wasn't as bad as the "sin" of gay marriage. I must have missed that conversation with him!

**And as i've said before...for those of you that don't like my answer...

And yes, i am a Christian..I am probably involved more in my church and community than any of you morons that will give me a thumbs down. You just can't pick and choose...DON'T tell me that the bible says gay people are wrong...HELLO...It also teaches OVER & OVER again NOT to judge.

i don't have time to worry about it though...for all i know i am going to hell for judging you idiots WAY before some guy who wants to marry another guy is.

Good luck with your debate ;) It's not gonna' be an easy one!!

a religious based gay marriage is not ok because religion does not support gay unions.

a state or gov based gay marriage should be up to the vote of the people of the state or gov......since church and gov are seperate

Therefore anyone should be able to go to the justice of the peace at any local gov. office and get married in a 100% legal union....which of course will not be recognized by any christian based religion....but who cares.

In fact dont even call it a marriage on the certificate...call it a legal union instead since all the religious nuts have the word marriage locked up. The people in the union can call it what they want...i dont think they will get caught up on the symantics

well the constitution, in addition to life, guarantees the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. gay marriage also doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Also, our founding fathers made it clear that there should be a seperation between church and state, so arguments like "the bible says it's a sin" don't really hold much water.

gay marriage is ok because it's between the two of them that are getting married and if you don't like it then you go marry the opposite sex and don't go to gay weddings! They are people too and should have the same right as everyone else!!!

That should be difficult considering it is not right!

Oh! But, you did say why it's "ok". And I guess the best way to answer that would be to say simply; gay marriage is "ok" in today's society, because what is moral and "right" is now considered "wrong" and what was once immoral and shameful is now "right". Therefore, alternative lifestyles, hate crimes, crimes of passion, perjury, piracy, pedophilia, YOU NAME IT, we can do it in the land of the free. Because, it is OK...

Close by saying that,The constitution (law) ensures us the right as citizens to pursue what makes us "happy" and as long as we are "happy" and no one is getting hurt, then never mind God's law, because we as humans (flesh) have to live here on earth and have the RIGHT to do what feels good to us, makes us happy and everyone should just get over it and be OK with it.
Oh yeah, then start singing "God bless Americaaaaa"...

this is a guaranteed "A".

It's OK because it doesn't threaten traditional marriages. They don't grab non-gay people from the street and make them marry gays.

What's the big deal about gay marriages??? I don't get it!
