if a poisonous spider is crushed and it is left alone. Will the poision ever dissipate or still be a danger?

I often worry about killing spiders for fear their poison will somehow hurt me. I know its probably a little obsessive but I just thought I would ask for purposes of maintaining my sanity.

Actually a highly venomous spider after death would not be wise to touch. A dead bee if you touch the stinger you will be stung and injected with venom even though it is dead. A poisonous spider would be one that is fatal to eat. The word poisonous and the word venomous in regards to animals have two separate meanings.

The answer is either "probably not" or "depends on the type of spider." In general, most forms of spider venom are relatively harmless to humans. Most animal toxins have a very short shelf-life so the creature's body has to constantly create a new supply of venom. A dead spider's venom should dissipate and degrade pretty rapidly.

Also, most forms of animal venom have to be delivered subcutaneously (under the skin). The chances of you stepping on a recently crushed spider and accidentally piercing your foot with it's teensy tinsy fangs is pretty remote. Still, it could happen.

You would have to crush a spider pretty thoroughly to squeeze the venom out of the venom sac. Even if you did, the venom, being a protein or mixture of proteins, would denature and decompose pretty rapidly if subjected to normal atmospheric conditions, especially moisture.
