Why do homesexuals voice the mantra that if you don't like
homosexuality your hateful?

LONDON (Reuters) - Elton John has said organised religion should be banned because it promotes homophobia and turns some people into "hateful lemmings".
"I would ban religion completely, even though there are some wonderful things about it," the singer said in an interview with the Observer newspaper on Sunday.

"Religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. It turns people into hateful lemmings and it is not really compassionate."

Sir Elton is completely entitled to his opinion. I, however, tend to disagree.
I do not agree with Homosexuality. I have been very spiritual and am rasing my kids in the Church, and yet, I do not hate homosexuals... I DISAGREE with the lifestyle, yet that does not make me hate them.

You're confusing an opinion with bigotry. An opinion by itself is not hateful- but if you have the opinion that black people should all be shipped back to Africa, we'd all call you what you are, a racist, ignorant asshole, and it would, in fact, be hateful. Having the opinion that black people have many different interesting contributions to society, on the other hand, is not hateful.

So what is your opinion? Elton John's is that organized religion is bad because it causes hatred and homophobia. Personally, I don't agree completely, even though I love the guy, because I know that there are some organized religions that teach acceptance and love. But if you wanted to say that Elton's opinion is hateful towards religion, I probably wouldn't disagree with you. And if I think it's hateful to have certain opinions about gay people, I'm not wrong either.

Having an opinion does not make you hateful, but some opinions are hateful. Elton John has a very good point. A lot of anti-gay bigotry is and has been promoted by various religions. And if you do not think bigotry is wrong, then you have absolutely no moral compass.

By the way, why do some heterosexuals voice the mantra that gay people shouldn't complain about bigots? Over and over and over. Maybe you don't like other people to voice opinions.

I gotta agree with Elton John on that one, there are other things that make religion bad as well. I wouldn't ban it but I would suggest that others turn away from it, in the end it's their choice.

Having an opinion is not always a bad thing but some opinions are dangerous. Are you saying that if I was a misogynist I should have all the rights in the world to beat as many women as I see fit? When an opinion becomes bigoted it becomes dangerous and needs to be changed.

You make it sound like "having an opinion" is an inherently neutral thing. It's NOT. Having an irrational, knee-jerk "ick" view of homosexuals isn't necessarily hateful, but it also isn't necessarily flowers and rainbows, is it?

The negative opinion is based on something that the person must consider a legitimate basis. What could that basis be? What kind of justification could someone have to disapprove of homosexuality?

It couldn't be academic or expert... the APA along with virtually every other medical, psychological and sociological organization on the face of the planet has told us for decades and in no uncertain terms that homosexuality is NOT an illness, a disease, a disorder, a dysfunction, a perversion, a maladjustment, etc.

Then what is it? What motivates a person to turn their back on all of the authorties on the matter and say "I know better"?

Having an opinion is one thing but being hateful is something separate altogether. My world is not rosey colored to the point where I think everyone should agree with same sex relationships. We are a diverse race of people and not everyone is going to see eye to eye and that's ok. I think the problem comes in the way that folks voice their opinions about homeosexuality. For someone to respectfully tell me that they do not agree with the way I live my life and to even elaborate in a respectful way is FINE!!! Do not HATE me because I live a way that you don't agree. I'm not asking you or anyone else to agree with same sex relationships. But I think it's the lack of respect that some people exhibit is what tears most of us in the gay community out of our frames. Just a teeny tiny bit of common courtesy and respect can go a long, long way.

I don' t think having an opinion makes you hateful. What makes a person hateful is how much they try to force their opinions down other people's throats. When people think their opinion is the only one that matters and refuse to listen to anyone else's then they are hateful.

I think a person can think homosexualilty is wrong and still be kind. If you think homosexuality is wrong, then don't be a homosexual and that is all. The only person you can control is yourself. When you think your opinion gives you the right to control other people, then you are being out of line and will be labeled as "hateful".

Just practice what you preach and do it quietly and people will notice. If they like your "practice" they may join you. They won't join you if you preach and they especially won't join you if you preach one thing and practice another.

Look at this idiot's other trailer trash philosophy in a couple other of her questions, and you can see what we are up against.

This creature is a clueless malcontent, who does not know the first thing about religion, God nor Jesus.

She just came here to spout off her foolishness (like that's something new)

Pity her stupidity, she must live with this quagmire in her head, we just had to read one of her simpleton thoughts. It amazes me how the poorly educated are clueless to their own ignorance and lack of education. Sad, really sad..

Nasty, dull witted, ignorant trash. If you pray, pray that this creature has not produced any spawn.

Sad pathetic thing. How awful her world must be.

Anyone who claims to be religious but hates or disrespects or lashes out at someone for being gay is not a truely religious person. They are so full of hate for themselves and their pathetic lives that they need to project their anger and hate at an easy target....right now, gays tend to be the target for the religous nutcases.

You can have any sort of opinion you wish. But express your particular brand of crazy amongst the slack jaws you hang out with.

When you come onto a gay forum like this to tell us your opinion, then you are fair game. We didn't ask you what you thought. You came here to spout off like a fool and wanted what? Respect? No Miss Thing, not here. Get your Amen chorus elsewhere, but don't spew your filth version of the truth here.

When you come in with that attitude that you and you alone have the answer, then we are within our rights to be on the defensive.

Your arrogance and of others of your ilk amazes me. You think we should what? Thank you for your nasty arrogance? No, aint going to happen.

Go away, play your holier than thou game else where. Harass someone else for a change. Or perhaps get on your fat knees and pray to God His forgiveness for presuming to speak for HIM

How dare you.
