Well, rightfully so.

Verlander was the clear cut winner for the award. Had Liriano and Papelbon both stayed healthy, it may have been a different story, but that wasnt the case.

It was nice to see someone with my name win something too!

I would also like to point out that Carlos Beltran had 26 of 28 first place votes when he won the ROY. He also had 1 second place vote and one writer left him off the ballot completely. Criminal.

Anyways, you can't take anything away from Verlander, he had an amazing year and I hope he can continue to do it, except when he pitches against the white sox.

There have been six unanimous Rookie of the Year selections in the AL: Carlton Fisk (1972), Mark McGwire (1987), Sandy Alomar (1990), Tim Salmon (1993), Derek Jeter (1996), Nomar Garciaparra (1997). Fred Lynn (1975) received all 24 first-place votes but one was split with Jim Rice.

Pujols, Ichiro, Garciaparra, Jeter, Mcgwire, Ripken Jr., Strawberry, Gooden, I mean, most times its pretty big in terms of vote differential if the players REALLY good in that rookie year.. Jason Bay got i think it was 25 of 32 first place votes.... Bobby Crosby was 1 vote shy on being the Consensus winner in the AL that same year.

Verlander looks like Will Clark. Remember him? Old first baseman for the Giants, had a short yet real important role with the Cardinals before he retired....yeah.
Will Clark ended up being a favorite of mine. Great guy, too. Met his sister one day at Busch Stadium. It was pretty funny I happened to be sitting next to her during a rain delay.
Sorry, what was the question?

I don't know that much about the past of the AL Rookie of the Year Award. But Verlander deserved it with his year. I think if Liriano didn't get hurt and had a full year it would have been a lot closer.

I know you hate to hear it but Derek Jeter dominated the voting in 1996 as he will in the MVP voting this year.

Which just makes that World Series Trophy so much sweeter....Oh wait....errr...dang, the Tigers LOST to the lowley Cardinals? In 5 games? Well, at least your pitcher got ROY. LOL
