I would sure think so because your hormone levels are more unbalanced during menustration and right before it

My roommate especially finds herself wanting more sweets when she is on her period and hungrier all the time right before it

So based on experience with other people, I think it's normal - I'd still say try not to, but heck, it's a period - every girl's disdain.

Most women, not all, who are fixing to, or have just begun their period do get extremely increased appetites. You get cravings, and it seems like no matter how much you eat, it's just never enough!! I know it happens to me, and when I got my first period, I gained a lot of weight, because I didn't know how to control it, but now, I just eat a little bit, 4-5 times a day. I try to diverse my food a little bit, so that the cravings subside some. When you do eat just a little, try to eat a wide variety of things, so that you're not craving more later on. Excersise while you're on it, and that should make you feel better about eating a little more during the rough days. In the long run, yes, I would say it's normal, but not quite a good thing, so find some kind of control and you should be home free, less guilty, and healthier! GOOD LUCK!! XOXO

Oh yes! Cravings are a classic symptom of menstruation. I also read somewhere that a woman requires 500 more calories during this time of the month.
