How does your family handle Christmas presents for nieces/nephews when there are several of them? How do you think it should be handled? My family has a lot of nieces and nephews and we aren't sure what to do about this. Is it being cheap to not want to spend $20-25 per child? That get expensive. What about the aunts and uncles who don't have kids? Should they have to give gifts, too? How does your large family handle this or how do you think we should?

My husband and I both come from fairly large families. On his side we draw names for the kids, meaning each child gets the name of a cousin. I have three kids, so I will buy three gifts for their cousins. I keep the gifts cheap, usually around $10.00. I also buy off clearance racks or the day after Thanksgiving, when the sales are good. The adults usually don't give to each other.

My side of the family draws names for the adults. Sometimes we do couples. We spend about $50.00 per couple. We do buy for each of the kids (nieces and nephews) but I buy all year round when things are on clearance. It is easy to guess sizes of little ones for the following winter, so when clothing is on sale I pick up an outfit and hang it in my closet to use for Christmas.

I save money buying things on sale, and when Christmas rolls around I already have the majority of my shopping done. There isn't much of a financial crunch because I have spread out the buying.

We usually just buy for the kids now, nieces and nephews. We all have 2 kids each, so it works out ok. A friend of mine doesn't have kids, but all her 6 siblings do. During a tough Christmas when she wasn't working, she just decided to give cards with an invitation for a sleepover, not all at the same time.

If there are multiple kids in a family, then give them a group gift like a monopoly game or something they can enjoy together.
My family got so large that for several years we drew names and just got a gift for that person. That wasn't very satisfying though.
Now I just get matching Christmas ornaments for all of them either with a date or a place to put their name. Over the years, they will accumulate a nice selection for their own tree someday. I get them from the Oriental Trading company where you can buy a dozen for a reasonable price.

Dont worry, it does'nt mean your cheap if you dont spend alot of money on gifts besides it's the thought that counts. I have alot of nieces and nephews also, I buy Mc Donald gift certificates $5.00 for each child or a family gift something the entire family can enjoy such as, a game, movie or a restaraunt gift certificate. And yes even those family members that dont have children should also buy gifts. I hope I helped. God Bless You

We have a large family, so we all draw names after Thanksgiving dinner. For the teenagers I usually try to get them 1 cd or movie I think they will like and a pack of blank cds. Blank cds are a always a big hit w/ the kids and their parents, apparently I'm not the only mom spending a small fortune on these, so they are always appreciated by everybody. :) Movie passes are good too. You spend $14 for 2 tickets. This works for all ages. The teens can take a friend or a date and the kiddies go w/ their parents who will only have to shell out money for popcorn. The younger kids are so much easier because they are happy w/ pretty much anything...jumbo coloring books, story books, a new doll ect. Hope this helps :)

its always hard to shop for kids, more so when theres a price range. teenage boys love video games but who can afford a 50 dollar game? and gift certificates are easy but you spend more in the long run because you need to get the same amount for every kid or else there will be a brawl. i usually go to a used book store and get slighty used books. kids books are cheaper anyway because there paperback.
i remember when i was 12 i got the rohald dahl books (charlie and the chocolate factory and matilda) and that was THE best gift i ever got! i got it for someone last year and it only cost me 18 bucks for the two!

Between 3 half-sisters I have 13 nieces and nephews, so I understand how you feel. What we do is give each family one big gift card so that they can buy a family gift (i.e. video game system, trampoline, etc.)

At Thanksgiving everyone in my extended family who is attendeding our Christmas celebration writes their name on a small sheet of paper. Then we put all the names in a hat and everyone randomly draws one name. We spend $40-$60 for the persons name we draw and $5(or less) on everyone else.

The kids don't use this system. Each family spends $15-$30 on them. They could use this system with cheaper amounts though.
Hope it works well!

We have a $10 limit. When they get so old that I can't find stuff for $10, then I just give them $10 cash, which they always appreciate.
