8/12 can be reduced to 2/3...

Equivalent fractions are anything of the form 2n/3n (where n is non-zero integer)
e.g. 2/3, 4/6, 6/9, etc.

Same thing for 4/9 --> 4n/9n
= 8/18, 12/27, etc.

an equivalent fraction of 8/12 is 2/3 because you can divide the numerator and denominator by 4
multiplying the numerator and denominator by a number is equal to multiplying the fraction by 1 so it does not affect the value of the fraction
an equivalent fraction of 4/9 is 8/18 because you can multiply the numberator and denomiator by 2

well, 8/12 is (2*4)/(3*4) cancel the 4
therefore, 8/12= 2/3
however, 4/9 is still 4/9 since there are no # that go into that...

I think you are mistaken it by square root of 4/9 that is square root of 4 is 2 and square root of 9 is 3 therefore square root of 4/9 is = 2/3 but spare root of 4/9 is not the same as 4/9
