I'm afraid I have to disagree with the people who claim Red Lobster is the best, it's nowhere near the best.
My favourite restaurants are (because it's impossible to pick just one): The Slanted door in San Francisco for great Asian cuisine,
Chez Panisse in Berkeley for ambiance and great French food,
Morton's in Somerset (MI) for great steaks and service,
Chez Paul in Paris for the quaint atmosphere and traditional French food,
Au clair de lune in Paris for the location, yummy food and warm and friendly service,
Le Violon d'Ingres in Paris for classic French cooking,
Feinschmecker in Oslo for great food, service,
Bolgen og Moi in Sandvika for great tasting, fun and interesting food, a great location.
There are many more, but in the interest of brevity I'll stop there.

Quite possibly Ray's the Steaks right outside DC. They don't take reservations, and clearly don't give a damn about ambience which would normally trouble me, but it felt like the extra effort was in the kitchen because the food was flawless. From start to finish, every dish was dead-on. The crab bisque was probably the best I've ever had, and the ribeye rivals any other steakhouse I've ever been in.

This is a toughie to answer but I'll try my best!
There used to be a little Steakhouse in Niagara Falls called 'Sparks' that used to be one of my favourite but it is now closed. Their Filet Mignon was buttery perfect.
'Rodney's Oyster House' is one my favourites! Oysters galore, sweet lobster, clams, mussell, candied salmon, succulent shrimp... mmmmm so good.
The second to that is one that I recently discovered in at the Hyatt downtown Toronto called 'Tundra'. Their seafood buffet on Friday nights is to die for and just unbelievable.
It is because of people like me, that shellfish & a lot of seafood will be extinct by about 50 years from now. Can't help it.

El Chico is my favorite because they give free queso with the chips and salsa. Most restaurants charge an extra 5 bucks for queso and it isn't as good as El Chico's. I also love the enchiladas and tacos. Everything there is so fresh and the service is always really good.

Oinkers in Clayton GA! Possibilty the best southern BBQ in existance. I found it completely by accident while on a road trip. It's incredibly adorable, all the people there are so friendly, and if you're never had southern BBQ, you need to go!
Oh will I miss it when I head back to the northeast...

Ginza-a Japanese restaurant near my house in Evans, GA. I don't care for sushi, I like the cooked food. They don't even cook at your table at this one, they just have the absolute best ginger salad dressing and this most yummy white sauce that I drench my fried rice in. Oh wow, I am sooo hungry now! You forgot to tell us why you like T.G.I.s. I used to love them but they got rid of my fave-Steak on a Stick. I ate that for years and then boom-it was gone. Boo.
