Why is it so popular to hate America in other countries?

I just got back from St. Petersburg. A girl told me that the most popular sports in the world were football (soccer) and hating Americans. She didn't agree with the critique but she said Americans were perceived as imbeciles. It's not as if other countries are populated exclusively by engineers and Ph.Ds. She also said Americans were obsessed with consumerism. I agreed but said I had seen the same dynamic in China, the Phillipines, Argentina, the UK and just about anywhere else I had been. She also said that America meddles to much in other countries affairs. I agreed, but stated that it was ironic hearing that criticism in the former U.S.S.R. Further, we had not done it more nefariously than, say, Iran (Hezbollah), Saudi Arabia, and dozens of other countries.
What do you think? Why is it so popular to hate America?

Yes I find it amazing that everyone hates us. But at the first sign of trouble who do they call? they are killing us here or taking our food help help help!!!!! Then when we help we are meddling in their affairs. Then my favorite "it's all about the oil". Piss on them and their oil. Stop shipping ours out use our own resourses. Let them sell it to someone else. I also feel that given a chance most people would rather live here than their own country. Take for instance the middle easterners they all hate us but there sure is alot of them here making money from our system and our way of life. If you do not like us why are you here! I personally do not care for these people and you would never catch me moving to their country to make a buck. They all hate us but they love our almighty dollar.When you live as they do and have nothing it is easy to point the finger at someone else and say that they are the reason you live like this. The funny thing is that the people that run their governments or rule the people live VERY WELL. If their own govt. would share the wealth and power with the people then they could be productive and all have some sort of life. When you constantly tell someone you would have more if it weren't for the Americans they believe it. If our govt. took all of your stuff and fed you crumbs and then after awhile started telling you you live like that because those people over there keep all your food you would believe it too after awhile. One day these people will realize that we are not the cause of their problems but their own govt. or goofy religious beliefs that keep them from being a productive country in todays world.

You have to understand their customs,beliefs and religious beliefs. In Saudi Araba countries our way of living aand morals are punishable by death especially their religious beliefs, if you are not a virgin when you marry you will be exhiled or put to death,even the women there who would kile a littles more freedom consider American women sluts.Men are the rulers there and women are only for producing a male heir if possible after so many girls they,re divorced they,re sole purpose is to please men and must have permission from men to do most anything. It is very seldom you see women. Iraqs prime Minister has said America must undersand we might want some sort of Democracy,but it will never be like the democracy that you have because of their religious beliefs, and also hte Prime Minister said We might see our way to give women in Iraq, alittle freedom but we will never allow our women the freedom America has, it is against the Koran and their religious beliefs and America should get used to this and accept this. As far as being concerned imbeciles in other countries, I,m afraid compared to most countries we are. In Education we are far far far behind. Whatever we do we must not allow our children to even consider quitting high school., and now they need to take part time jobs in high school to save for college as now a high school diploma is not enough education for jobs that are needed and there is no way the average parent can carry the load unless their finacally well off. We have become spoiled and lazyand to change our image we must get off our duffs.We do meddle to much, thats also said by China Iraq Iran North Korea ect. We have managed to keep peace in the past by not meddling. Now if you want to say Saddam treated his people horrible,yes he did and so does a lot of other countries, do we take them all out.

I'm an American so I'm not qualified to answer. I don't see our country as the rest of the world does. I'm on the inside looking out. I see people from around the world acting like they're superior to us. Making fun and pointing fingers. Americans aren't the name callers. They way they act could be considered a form of discrimination. You can't get away with acting like that here. They're making themselves look bad. I'm an American and proud of it.

well until the democrats/liberals won the election it was because we feared no one,were independent,and made are own decisions,we are wealthy,almost non exist unemployment,a military matched by none, but that will come to a halt on January 1,2007,we will be grabbing the ankles for the liberal world,to bust a nut in the American rear,mark my words!

I don't know, but,I think to have someone as the leading of our country, that doesn't come across as being very intelligent adds fuel to it. I think that you may agree that most of this has happened in the past six years.

it is because America never agrees to aid in the plight and desperation of others, instead their large and extreme capitalist ideals lead them to exploit third world countries, and they place and continue the militarization of tyrrants and dictators in order to receive continued and cheap oil, and other exports and commodities. Look at the terrorist war against Nicaragua, the illegal embargo against Cuba, the pre-emptive strike on Iraq, the threats that led North Korea to prusue nuclear weapons, the immense hatred of moderate and even slight communism, and their vindictive approach to modernizing nations such as Iran and their continuing support and blocade to a peaceful solution between Israel and the Middle East, economic sanctions on many nations, and burdens on Africa, the immense nuclear build-up and space militarism.

Whoever continually gives thumbs down is humorously ridiculous because they are probably ignorant, pathetic, uneducated id....... dumb, the obvious trademarks of a vicious nation and its cruel and dumbsupporters. Go read some texts, build-up your brain and then prehaps you might end up having actual open and different views.
