I do agree with all the points you're making but they probably keep the same name because its become a brand, to change it would mean remarketing which would also cost money & I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be willing to do that!
I don't watch MTV so much anymore for a lot of the reasons you've stated here, I prefer some of the other less well known channels that play a lot of music or I just switch into the radio channels on digital.
Its definitely a good point you're making, especially the IQ thing! I remember watching a show where some blonde didn't even know how to mop a floor...how dumb can you get?! Surely its common sense?!

You are exactly right! MTV has nothing on that has anything to do with videos. VH1 is the channel that has all the videos on. I mean, even Matt Pinfield, who was originally on MTV, is on that station because even he realized that MTV was not showing any videos. I mean, the only time I actually see any videos on that station is when they have it on "nocturnal hour". Really, that is about 3 in the morning. People are sleeping at that time! And, if they are not sleeping at that time they are either getting up to go to work or they are just coming home from work! Why in the hell they would want to watch videos at that time is beyond me! The only way I actually see a video at that time is when I cannot sleep or I wake up in the middle of the night. That bites! I mean, they have shows like "Yo Momma" and "MTV Cribs" (really, seriously, I am African American but, why do black people need soo many cars? And jewelry? Why? Just have two cars and be done! Stop f'ucking showing off!)
I do like "Pimp My Ride" because it amazes me what kind of things they can put in a Pinto and the fact that these people are driving this new hooped-up car around-not realizing that A, their insurance is going to go up and B, because they were featured on the show that someone might rob them. They do not seem to realize that.
Other then that, I do not go onto that channel. When I channel surf, I stop and see what is on that channel and, after a minute or so, I have to turn to something else because, besides what I just said above, there is nothing on. So, not only is calling that staion MTV is a joke, but, for them to actually have a "Video Music Awards" absolutely makes no sense, either.
They suck s'hit!

I think MTV started out as a channel that only features music video and I think they are also the first channel to cater to such genre....That's how they came to the name MTV or Music Television.
But later they began to branch out by featuring other kinds of program, such as reality shows and animated shows. I don't think they can change their name easily cause MTV sort of stuck already... Plus remember they have those award bodies like MTV music awards and the MTV movie awards...So its unlikely that they'll change their name...

MTV sucks big hairy balls. It should be call BHBTV (Big Hairy Balls Television). Nothing but drama TV man...drama TV. If they want my attention they had better start showing music videos or naked chicks.

I love how at the end of their non-music shows, they'll show a snippet of a video and tell you to go to mtv.com to see the rest... um, I thought that's why I was watching MUSIC TELEVISION!?! How foolish of me.
