It all depends on the show--some monologues are appropriate (and can possibly land you the part!) while others just don't fit the tone of the show.
A great comedic monologue can be found in Jonathan Rand's "Check, Please!" I combined all of Mary's lines to create one hilarious monologue. It's appropriate for all age groups and gets plenty of laughs when delivered with the right pizzazz!
A great dramatic monologue can be found in Julia Roberts' "Erin Brockovitch", Langston Hughes' "A Raisin in the Sun", Tennesee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire" or "The Glass Menagerie"...it really depends on the show. Dramatic monologues are tricky. If you need more suggestions or any help at all, shoot me an email at uctheatrescholar@yahoo.com :D Good luck!

I do not have access to it at the moment but allthough it is not actually a monologue itself you can make one out of the very last scene of The Shadow Box. There are also several actual monologues in there too. You could also use the scene in West Side Story where Tony is killed and Maria gets a hold of Chino's gun.
Hope that helps.

I used this monologue in my theatre class earlier this year:
The Horrors of the Holidays
(It is the day after Thanksgiving. Kara's friend asks her how her holiday was.)
Kara: How was it? It was awful. I hate Thanksgiving. It's like one of those holidays designed to make people miserable. My brother wouldn't shut up about all this dumb football stuff. And my little sister started crying because she wanted pizza. Pizza! Actually, I can't blame her. I mean, who invented the Jell-o-mold anyway? It would be okay if it was just cranberry. But nooo, it's like this law that you have to put all kinds of disgusting fruit bits in it. Meanwhile, my aunt kept asking, "Sooo, do you have a boyfriend yet?" Like I'd tell her, even if I did. And my mom was running around, refusing to sit and eat. I think she must have always dreamed of being a waitress or something. Then my grandma announces she's suffering from gas. Who's she kidding? We were the ones suffering! Everyone pigged out and then lied around watching TV and feeling sick. So I figure, the reason we're giving thanks is that we only have to do this once a year!
I got a lot of laughs - just be careful to not laugh yourself! Hope it helps.

There are many good books of monologues out there. A good library will have some, as well Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc. Many are geared for teens, so you should be able to find something good!

Well first of all I would need to know the genre of the play. Will it be a dramatic, comedic or serio-comic play?
