Couldn't find anything about billy coming out of his shell, since he killed himself after being confronted by the nurse. He was with a prostitute that McMurphy provided at the time.

After bribing the night orderly, McMurphy smuggles bottles of liquor and two prostitutes onto the ward for a wild nighttime party. In a scene which could be interpreted as a sort of baptism (following the novel's Biblical allusions), Billy Bibbit loses his virginity and sleeps with one of the prostitutes at McMurphy's urging. However, McMurphy's plans quickly go awry when he falls asleep and does not awake until the morning staff returns and discovers what has happened. Nurse Ratched walks in on Billy Bibbit and the prostitute, still asleep, and threatening to tell Billy's mother what he has done. Hearing this, Billy enters a frenzied state, and when taken to the Doctor's office, cuts his throat and commits suicide.

If you can't be bothered to read the book (and it is a good one) at least watch the movie(which is also good). You don't get much of an education calling on others for your answers.
