Well, although many are, I can tell you some directed by women that were violent. "The Prince of Tides" by Barbara Streisand with rape scenes. Also some touching scenes. Another would be "Monster" about female serial killer Aileen Wuornos who was executed. This is one of the most violent, disturbing movies i have seen. but, in general i think you are right on that issue.

Simply because *most* women are more nurturing and peace-loving, (romantics). Men like to get feisty and make bang-bang, your dead, movies, lol. I think because of the testosterone (not kidding) and its just the way they are wired. Women tend to make those chick-flick, love stories, and learn-a-lesson movies that my mom watches on Lifetime channel which bore the heck out of me. I like horror or in-your-face artistic foreign films better than the other types.

Because women don't need a bunch of gratuitous violence and special effects - - we'd much rather see a story of substance instead.
