You need light too see because there has to be enough light to see the object clearing so the image will bounce off the rentina strikres nerves and the message to the brain to identifye what the object is.

There are two kinds of light recepters in the retina. Rods work well in dim light, but can see only see in black and white. Cones can see colour, but require more light. In the center of the retina is an area that is pack with cones.
