Borat is an ignorant character.
Sacha Baron Cohen is the actor playing that character. Cohen is highly educated, including time spent at Christ's College at the University of Cambridge.
The point of the character is to highlight the racist/sexist views that the average person has and to show how ridiculous this makes them look. 'Borat' is just a device for doing so.
One reason for the movie's success is the lack of competition from similar movies.
Good comedies are rare.

Borat was GREAT! He did very well. Did anyone see him on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno? Martha Stewart was there and it was GREAT! I liked how he stayed in character throughout the whole thing. He is very talented. We will see a lot of him in the future.

The point of this movie is to make people look dumb. All the people in the film don't know that he is actually Sacha Baron Cohen, who is highly Jewish. The point of the film is to make fun of people who are racist/sexist. He's just trying to show everyone that people like that still exist today. It's sort of a parody. Pretty funny if you ask me =D
