At the age of seven or eight, Douglass is selected to go to Baltimore to live with Captain Anthony’s son‑in‑law’s brother, Hugh Auld.

Id like to start by saying that I dont like doing your home work. but I cant resist a challenge. While fredrick was growing up in slavery Hugh auld was Fredrick douglass's master. his wife sophia started to teach him how to read and write. after hugh found out about this he got furious and argured with his wife that not only was it illegal but teaching a slave to read or write made the slave unfit to be a slave. The slave couldalso forge his own freedom papers to escape to one of the free states in the north. This gave fredrick the idea that if he could learn to read and write he could be free.
