You need sleep time so the body can repair the damage done in the day. You will suffer from all kinds of symptoms through sleep deprivation. If you are not sleeping there is a reason and you should see your doctor straight away. Lack of sleep is very dangerous to our bodies and can even cause hallucinations.

It's terrible for the health. Particularly for the brain and nerves system. Scientists tried deprivation of sleep and deprivation of food on two people simultaneously & apparently, the person who was deprived of sleep deteriorated badly after 11 days (became a complete zombie & could not even stand up). The person who was deprived of food was fine for 14 days.
In a nutshell, sleep is the brains' food, without it a person could not function, and a lot of health problems will rappidly occur with excessive lack of sleep. One will also look & get older quickly as there would be no proper regeneration of vital cells in the body.
I hope this answer has convinced you enough to get good hours of sleep.

It is quite complicated but basically you have type 1 (night time) immunity and type 2 (day-time) immunity. Losing a nights sleep will not in the long term affect your health but continuous sleepless nights or poor sleep will upset the circadian rhythm of the immune system cycle thus affecting your health!

Prevents your body from fighting disease and infection
Your liver detoxifies when you sleep and if you don't, you get a build up of fatty deposits and toxicity.
Muscles relax causing the body to destress
The mind slows down so that you feel psychologically well the following day
Leads to irritability and aggression
Severe sleep deprivation can result in hallucinations
The brain produces more serotonin making you feel hyperactive and fast, although in the long term it has the opposite effect and causes depression.

when you sleep your body heals itself. If your coming down with a cold but don't know yet, when you hit REM sleep your body repairs itself and you may not even get that cold If you didn't get that sleep you could become very sick even more so than if you had a normal sleep. If you have chronic medical problems lack of sleep could cause you to have a flair up of your illness

i know from experience. you feel very tired but at first u feel energised and feel like u can carry on with the day but just after noon, u feel very tired and your eyes wanna close. lack of sleep can delay growth and maybe make u pale (?), bags under eyes. Also, you feel anger and annoyance and ,may act moany or grumpy.
