First of all, quality has nothing to do with personal preference. I have studied the way of iaido for five years, and I still use the iaito that my fiance bought me for $60. It's a mass produced sword...it has flaws...and the tsuka-ito has unraveled once on me, but I wouldn't train with another blade.
As far as others go, there was a tachi blade made in '02 by Yoshihara Yoshikazu, son of Yoshihara Yoshindo, that I really like. It has a shinogi-zukuri style blade, itame hada, o-busa choji midare hamon, and a cutting edge of 30". A blade like that, however, is a bit out of my price range...probably a good $20,000 out of my price range...
To be more realistic, dynasty forge makes pretty reasonable tamahagane shinken. Couple grand a pop. I like the iai geometry blade, myself.
I will say this, though. She bought me another sword for my birthday, a shinken. Hand forged, differentially tempered, all that fun stuff. It has a plum blossom / tomoe tsuba. It is my personal favorite and I wouldnt sell it for all the money in the world.

My favorite sword is one that I have that was hand made and if the black dragon katana is one of those mass produced swords it is a piece of junk compared to mine and doesn't deserve to be any ones favorite,
