The primary colors are red blue and yellow. When you lighten blue, you get light blue. When lighten yellow, you get light yellow. So why is it when you lighten red, you get pink? Why was that the only lightened color to get a whole new name? Is there color/shade that can actually be called light red and NOT pink?

You forgot "black"
If you add white to it, you don't get light black.
You get grey...

Mind you, light blue and light yellow are not official names.
Get a color card from your paint shop and you will find at least 50 different grade of yellow, each with its own name, without the word yellow in it.

As for red and black, they are such strong definitive colors that as soon as you lighten them, their color change completely to something else, which is why we give them another name.

However, if you did put another strong color with them, like a dark blue or green, they would only change slightly to a different shade of red or black, depending on how much color you add to it of course. You want very little. You can also put black into red or red into black.

Remember also that the true blue and the true yellow are just as bright and strong as red. Add white to them and they don't look anything like the original.

Light blue or light yellow are not a color and can apply to over 200 different shades of yellow or blue.

No, there is only hot pink, light pink and red. Some questions we may never know the answers to, so don't let it stress you out. Some things just are.

Hmmm.... good question.

If you add less white to red, it becomes a light red, or a dark pink, ever thought about it that way?

I honestly don't know, but I love hearing weird, unexplainable things!
